On 22 and 23 April, the sixth and final in-person session took place of the seminar “Keys to accompaniment in Poveda - Until Christ is formed in you”.

Sesión de trabajo

In this concluding session, Sylvia Cano addressed the topic, “To accompany: a way of being in relationship. The spirit of our Association is one of fortitude and love”. While referring to Poveda’s writings, she stressed among other things the importance of the relational aspect in his educational approach. This could be seen in the first academies he established and later in TA schools, both in the classroom and beyond. Spaces of generous service and love for others were created, and these awakened a desire for interaction.

Sylvia pointed out how Poveda believed that looking at the essential is to enter into the mystery of the Incarnation in search of true humanism. The key element of this is sincerity in our actions. She reminded us of the importance of supervision in accompaniment, since it is not possible to have a good accompaniment relationship if we are not being accompanied ourselves.

Group discussions

Throughout the weekend there were other spaces for sharing, particularly in discussion groups. This was a much appreciated opportunity to take up the topic of the previous session in the light of all that had been prayed and worked on in the period of time between meetings.

Montserrat Armengol, who had previously summarised the contents of the fourth and fifth mansions in Saint Teresa’s Interior Castle in an earlier session, now outlined the backdrop and context of the sixth and seventh mansions to enable us to continue our study.

In our prayer together, we were encouraged to embrace our assignment to go forth and serve as instruments. Writings by Poveda were our point of departure.

The passage of God

After dinner we had a festive and lively party to end the seminar and each of the participants received a diploma.

Sunday morning was dedicated to reflecting and sharing, first alone, then in small groups and finally all together on the passage of God in our lives by means of this seminar. Some have expressed the personal change they have experienced listening to the Word and confronting the texts of Poveda, which passed from the head to the heart. Welcoming a way of being that facilitates the encounter and an exchange in freedom, learning to accompany and be a sign of fraternity today.

This was the end of our two-year course which started in November 2021. It had the novelty of having participants from other countries being able to join us virtually from a distance.

On behalf of all the people who participated, I think I can say that we were enriched by the experience. In addition to learning more about the topics that were dealt with, we all became closer after sharing this time together.
