Women are given a voice by the Church in Luxembourg

LUXEMBOURG

TA member Milly Hellers preaches at the Octave of Our Lady of Consolation in Luxembourg Cathedral.

consolatrix imagenAs spring arrives, Luxembourg prepares to celebrate the feast of the Octave of Our Lady of Consolation, Consolatrix Afflictorum, a celebration that has taken place since 1666 when her protection was invoked and she was declared Patroness.

The speaker that Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich, Archbishop of Luxembourg, decided to invite is a woman, for the first time, and she is a laywoman, Milly Hellers, who works in the field of pastoral ministry.

“It was a surprise when he asked me to preach the Octave 2021. I felt the trust he placed in me and the responsibility that comes with it,” commented Milly Hellers.

Milly Hellers, a member of the Teresian Association, after a few years of professional activity in a bank, decided to study theology in Fribourg, Coira and Brussels, where she found her pastoral vocation. She has worked in the diocesan family pastoral care ministry and currently as a pastoral care worker in the parish of Kordall Sainte-Barbe (Petingen-Bascharage) and as assistant to the dean of the Western Deanery.

The title of her talks is O pee Mol war alles anescht (Suddenly everything changed).

Milly summed up in a few words what she wants to convey as part of the new evangelisation movement: “My intention is to reawaken interest in the Bible, the foundation of our faith. To rediscover the person of Jesus, his life, his words, his works, his death on the cross and his resurrection. It is not that we believe in something but that we believe in Someone who loves us and whom we can address with our own words, as St Teresa of Avila says. Discovering the presence of Jesus in our lives today, through the biblical texts, is fundamental. As Karl Rahner says: The Christian of the future will be a mystic or will cease to be anything at all. Jesus meets, calls, sends people and invites them to be part of a community”.
