Aitziber returned from the Philippines a few days ago when some information about possible storms was known.  In the interview she spoke of the work InteRed does on early warning and disaster preparedness to manage evacuations and respond to emergencies. This preparation has proven effective in this disaster because human lives have been saved in communities of the Bicol region where InteRed develops a part of its project.  However, the damage in the homes of these communities, in addition to the damage to agriculture and infrastructure,  are incalculable.

For five years InteRed has worked on  an agreement with the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation in the Philippines.  One of the components of this agreement was to prepare families to act before the arrival of a natural disaster, how to be safe when "early warnings" are given, and how to escape to  previously identified “safe" areas.
