It is with immense joy that the Governing Council of the Teresian Association welcomes Pope Francis’ authorisation of the promulgation of the decree recognising the heroic virtues of the Servant of God Elisa Giambelluca. This is an important step in the process of beatification which opened on 29 March 2009.
We thank God for the witness given by Elisa. Hers was a life of dedication and coherence. She was kind and joyful, attentive to people and courageous in her evangelisation according to the charism of the Association. Now, since 20 February, she is recognised as “venerable”.
Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the Friends of Elisa Giambelluca association, to Bishop Giuseppe Marciante of Cefalù, and to all in the diocese who have been making the figure of Elisa known through their enthusiasm, perseverance and creativity. Her commitment as a layperson and her clear vocation as an educator can be a point of reference for young people who are looking for meaning in their lives and new ways of following Jesus.
Elisa is “one of our own”, and she can inspire our actions and behaviour in our shared mission in a debilitated and wounded world. Let us all aspire to a time when human beings will recognise each other as brothers and sisters, all children of God.
Governing Council. 23 February 2021.
