Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Maipú, Chile

MAIPÚ, Chile.
The Teresian Association in Chile has a tradition of going on pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Maipú. Convened by Alberto Pérez School of that city, they started the is pilgrimage on May 26 at 10 AM.

This year the main intention was gratitude. The pilgrims had important reasons to give thanks for:

  • The bicentennial of the Independence of Chile, the last battle for this was fought in Maipú. The Fathers of the Nation had promised to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Patroness of Chile, "that in the very place where the last independence battle was fought, a Temple to Our Lady would be built in thanksgiving."
  • 90 years of the Teresian Association in Chile, since the "first three" teachers set foot on Chilean soil.
  • Celebrating with a grateful memory, the fruits achieved during the sexennium (2012 - 2018) that ends this year.

Students from Alberto Pérez School welcomed the pilgrims with songs and dances. They perfomed a play about the beginnings of the Teresian Association in Chile, including Adela Edwards’ communication with Pedro Poveda, the trip by boat of the three travelers,  their arrival in Chile and their commitment to education, human promotion, social transformation, and evangelization.

The school of the Teresian Association offered a moment of prayer and reflection on the central role of the family with the theme "History, Family and Poverty".

The members of Teresa Brown of Ariztía School, of La Calera,  made a brief review of the Rights of Children: "Childhood, Dignity and Future" and offered a dance performed by the girls.

The promise made by St. Pedro Poveda before Our Lady of Covadonga was also read. An image of “La Santina” (Our Lady of Covadonga) accompanied the pilgrims, who renewed their Associational commitment. This was followed by a dance performed by a group from Codao. The event ended at the Sanctuary with the Eucharist, celebrated with songs and dances of the earth.
